Where Y'at, soccer fans! Welcome to soccer in New Orleans. My home town is typical of many American cities. American football and baseball dominate the local newspaper, radio and
TV. High school football gets serious air time and column inches, in spite of the fact that there are thousands of kids playing soccer every weekend of the fall and spring. New Orleans soccer fans can
truly hold up their heads with pride. Our local professional team, formerly known as the New Orleans Riverboat Gamblers, now known as the New Orleans Storm (of the USISL A-League) have not only had
winning seaons, but they've won playoff games. In the pathetic 30+ history of the NFL's New Orleans Saints, this is sadly not the case. Soccer Yats know that an afternoon on the pitch is more fulfilling
(and most likely a good bit cheaper) than a Sunday afternoon watching the Saints screw up in Da Dome. For those of you unfamiliar with the term "Yat," a brief explanation is in order. The term
derives from a local greeting, where one local will walk up to/past another and say "Where you at?" This often gets slurred into "Where Y'at." One who slurs "you at" in this
manner is often referred to as "Yat." The purpose of YatSoccer is twofold: first, it is a place where one can come for information on soccer happenings in the area. This is a
bit high-minded, to be sure. I'll need the help of any local soccer fans on the 'net to get the information we'll need. The second purpose is a bit selfish, but nonetheless true. I wanted to put
together a place where my soccer links would be more organized. I've got too much stuff on my favorites list to use in any proper manner. So, I hope you find the site helpful in your
exploration of soccer on the 'net. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to e-mail me and I'll consider them. |
