Leicester City Football ClubHere at YatSoccer, we are big fans
of the Leicester City Football Club. Originally founded in 1884, Leicester City had long been a First Division team, were promoted to the Premiership for the 1994-95 season. They finished
second to last in the table, however, and were relegated back to the First Division for 1995-96. Moving back up to the Premiership for the 1996-97 season, the club won the Football
League/Coca-Cola Cup, qualifying them to compete for the UEFA Cup in Europe as well as establishing them as a respectable team in the Premiership. So far, City has consistently been in the top
third to quarter of the table, playing an enjoyable style of football under the tutelage of manager Martin O'Neill. How did New Orleanians come to support a team from Leicester, England?
The answer lies in City's "American Connection," goalkeeper Kasey Keller. Keller, a native of Portland, Oregon, is the starting keeper for the US National Team. He has played in
England since 1992, first signing with Millwall. When Millwall was relegated from the First to the Second Division last season, the club transferred Kasey to Leicester City for £1.6 million.
Kasey has been a major factor in the club's ability to stay at the top level of the Premiership. |
