Destrehan PlantationLocated only 8 miles from New Orleans International Airport on LA 48 (River Road) and one half-mile east of I-310 is Destrehan Plantation. Build in 1787, in French Colonial Style--remodeled to Greek Revival around 1830-40, it is the oldest documented plantation in the Lower Mississippi Valley. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places,. Hand-hewn cypress timbers, pegged attic, bousillage-West Indies style hip roof and magnificent oaks (members of the Live Oak Society) are some of the unique features of Destrehan. San Francisco PlantationSan Francisco Plantation, built in 1856, is a National Historical Landmark. A galleried home in the old Creole style, it features five decorative ceilings, wood graining and marbling. Authentically furnished. Guided tours daily 10-4. Oak Alley PlantationOak Alley Plantation, built from 1837-39 by Jacques T. Roman, is a fine example of Greek Revival architecture and is famous for its alley of 28 evenly spaced live oak trees, believed to be at least 100 years older than the "Big House." Houmas House PlantationHoumas House Plantation, built in 1840, is a one hour drive from New Orleans or a half hour drive from Baton Rouge.
