Top Ten Things for Kids in
New Orleans
Sporting Events

Tad Gormley Stadium in City
Park, home of the New Orleans Riverboat Gamblers
(A-League Soccer)
Time was when the only sporting games in town
were either the Saints (NFL), college sports
(Tulane, UNO, Dillard, Xavier), or Little League.
That's changed dramatically in the last couple of
years with the introduction of minor league
professional teams to the city. The New Orleans
Zephyrs are our AAA baseball team (affiliated
with the Houston Astros)and the Riverboat
Gamblers our A-League soccer team (affiliated
with the Dallas Burn of the MLS). Next year, the
New Orleans Brass will begin play as a franchise
in the East Coast Hockey League. Minor league
sports mean promotions, special game nights, etc.
Sure, the Zephyrs' pitching can be a disaster
some nights, but that's OK, however, so long as
there's hat night, bat day, ball day, sport bag
night, whatever.
The New Orleans Riverboat Gamblers may be
minor-league, but they're a good soccer team, and
their stadium, Tad Gormley in City Park, is a
great facility. the A-League plays a good, hard
brand of soccer that you and the kids will enjoy.
Of course, there's still the Saints and
college games as well, if you're partial to a
particular school, or you don't mind shelling out
major bucks for a Saints game. Kids love games in
the Dome, and the Saints may be finally on an
upswing.
