"I'll meet ya under the clock at Holmeses!" was something you'd hear regularly when listening to two New Orleans women discussing their plans for going shopping. Nowadays, Canal Street's prominence as the main shopping district of the city has given way to various malls in the metro area, but there are still lots of shopping gems for the visitor and local.
The Chateau Sonesta Hotel has now opened up at the site of the Canal Street D.H. Holmes Department Store. The Canal St. facade of the building has been completely restored, and they're even going to put the clock back! The folks from the hotel have compiled a bit of history of the D.H. Holmes building that you're welcome to peruse.
