This tomb is located on what used to be the infield of the old race course. It's just to the west of the Army of Northern Virginia Memorial. There are a lot of Egyptian-influenced tombs in Metairie, but this one stands out the most because of the pyramid shape.
Lucien Brunswig was a German immigrant who started a wholesale pharmaceutical company in New Orleans. The business prospered, and the Brunswig family became quite wealthy. The tomb is a copy of one in a cemetery in Munich, Germany. Its unique shape has attracted more than just visitors over the years, but also lightning. A bolt struck the top of the pyramid, but did not dislodge the apex stone or do any serious damage to the structure.
This is the tomb of the daughter of Confederate General P.G.T.
Beauregard. It's got a domed roof over four Islamic arches, topped
with an Eastern Orthodox cross. The tomb was commissioned by Gen.
Beauregard, and he is buried not far from his daughter, in the
Army of Tennessee, Louisiana Division, tumulus. You can see this
tumulus on the War Memorials #1 page.
