We invite you to visit the elegant Victorian French Quarter home of James Gallier, Jr. one of New Orleans' most innovative architects, designer of the French Opera House, Luling Mansion, and Bank of America Building.
New Orleans is a beautiful old city with many historic houses, but none is more accurately and lovingly restored than Gallier House. Built in 1857 as his private residence by architect James Gallier, Jr., the elegant French Quarter house and its furnishings reflect the taste and lifestyle of mid-19th century New Orleans.
Thorough research of period sources and the expertise of architects, archaeologists, historians, craftsmen and interior designers make the Gallier House project an outstanding example of historic restoration. Gallier House is designated a National Historic Landmark and is accredited by the American Association of Museums.
Visitors tour the completely restored residence, including a kitchen and early bathroom. Short films on disappearing architectural crafts andchanging exhibitions about 19th-century life are also available. special programs and educational tours for children's groups can be arranged. Seasonal changes at Christmas and during the summer.
Monday through Saturday from 10am to 4:30pm.
