Jingle Jangle Jingle,
Here comes Mister Bingle.
With another message from Kris Kringle!

As you watch this Christmas season,
Maison Blanche brings Christmas pleasin's.
Gifts galore for you to see,
Each of them from…MB!

New Orleans baby boomers should fondly remember that jingle. It was the intro to the little 2-minute "Mister Bingle" segments that came on in the early '60s prior to Romper Room and the cartoons each morning in December. Mister Bingle at that time was a little puppet who would talk to all of the good boys and girls and pump them up for Christmas. There wasn't a kid in town who didn't want their parents to take them downtown to see Mister Bingle in the window of the Canal St. store, then go upstairs to the toy department and Mister Bingle's North Pole World to see all of the animated figures before sitting on Santa's lap.

Maison Blanche has changed ownership several times since those days. The animated figures in the front windows, the toy department, and Santa are all gone now. In their place is a 30' high Mister Bingle attached to the front of the store. He's a cheesy little character who is totally commercial, but he's truly a part of New Orleans at Christmas time. Merry Christmas to everyone who grew up with Mister Bingle!

This photo was shot by me (Ed Branley) with a Nikon EM and a 50mm lens.
